Great 8 had a fabulous time working in the gardens and the kitchen on 9.3.16 with our amazing team from Plant-to-Plate. Here are the recipes we followed - let us know if you try any at home :)
Rhubarb, Apple and Peach Crumble
(Peaches were added from Mrs Wilson's trees at home - delicious!)

We even had Kawakawa leaves infused in hot water and then added to the homemade lemonade - wow! (a nice link to our Native NZ learning)
Baked Apples

apples (This is to serve 4 people)
2
tbsp sultanas
2
tbsp brown /raw sugar
1
teasp cinnamon
4
teasp butter
1
tbsp golden syrup
1
tbsp water
1
Carefully cut core from apples. Leave a base in

Peel thin strip of skin from round centre of apple

Mix sultanas,sugar and cinnamon in a bowl

Press this mixture into the apples
5
Put a little butter on top of each
6
Put apples into foil cups and place in a dish
7
Spoon golden syrup and water over apples
8
Cook in oven at 200.c for 15 minutes.
(Can
cook these in microwave but don’t use foil!!)
Serve
with Custard
MAGICAL
FRUIT SMOOTHIES
For 4 people….. so
how many for a class, kids?
2 kiwi fruit,
peeled and diced
2 bananas, peeled
and diced
1 cup un/sweetened
apple juice
I cup crushed
ice(Crush it by placing ice in a plastic bag and smashing with a rolling pin)
1.
Place
all ingredients into a blender or food processor and blend until smooth
2.
Serve
in glasses.
This smoothie idea is great with veggies
too
Yoghurt can be added as well
Pumpkin Muffins
125gr butter
1 ½ cups sugar
2 eggs
1 cup cooked
pumpkin pulp
2/3 cup milk
1 ¾ cups flour
2 teaspoons baking
powder
1 teaspoon baking
soda
1teaspoon salt
2 tsp cinnamon
½ teaspoon nutmeg
½ tsp ginger
1. Cream butter
and sugar
2.Add eggs one at
a time beating well
3.Combine pumpkin
pulp with sour milk
4 Mix dry
ingredients and add to butter and pumpkin mixture
5 Bake in greased
and floured muffin trays 180’c till they are cooked(Use knitting needle to test
)
